Georgy Baratashvili Menswear
Spring/Summer 2010
Russian-born designer Georgy Baratashvili is a graduate of the internationally
acclaimed MA Fashion course at Central Saint Martins. He has won numerous international design prizes, including a Puma Bursary Award which have led to two sell -out collaborations with the sportswear brand.
His final MA collection launched Baratashvili as an exciting new voice in menswear design. His darkly romantic aesthetic combined inspiration from modern day youth culture with an evocative approach to materials - luxuriously draped jersey, slouchy wool, soft washed leather in nudes and grays - to create a vision of tough sensuality that has drawn worldwide interest and an audience which includes a growing number of female clients.
Baratashvili had a premiere of a film piece to launch his Spring Summer 2010 collection as part of the On|Off showcase at London Fashion Week last September.
Drawing inspiration from the designer’s background as a dancer (he danced professionally for over a decade), the film is a collaboration with talented young choreographer Darja Reznikova, with male dancers performing a contemporary piece in garments from the new collection.
Moving on from his winter palette, this time round Baratashvili explores a cooler palette of inky blues, platinum greys and blacks, using high-tech jersey fabrics alongside a mix of sensual linens, silks, and leathers. His distinctively intricate drapery anchors the collection, alongside simpler, more commercial pieces enlivened with the designer’s signature twist!
Baratashvili will launch an online shop at the end of October, retailing a capsule range of limited edition T-shirts as well as offering one-of-a kind garments.
